• Chana dal/Gram dal(senaga pappu): 4 tbsps
  • Urad dal(minappappu): 2 tbsps
  • coriander seeds : ½ cup
  • cumin seeds : ¼ cup
  • dried red chillis : 12-15
  • curry leaves : 1 cup
  • salt : to taste
  • oil : 3 tsp
  • garlic pods : 6


  • Heat a tsp of oil in a pan and add gram dal,fry till they turn red and keep it aside
  • Now in the same pan add urad dal and fry them till they turn red. Make sure not to burn the ingredients while tossing. Remove from pan and keep aside.
  • In the same pan add coriander seeds,cumin seeds and toss them on medium heat till they turn brown and nice aroma comes out. Remove from pan and keep aside.
  • In the same pan add a tsp of oil, add dry red chillies and toss them about 2 mts till they turn crisp. Remove and keep aside.
  • Now add a tsp of oil and add the curry leaves and toss them till they become crisp. Keep on tossing the leaves so they get heated evenly. Turn off the heat.
  • cool all the roasted ingredients completely.
  • Once all the ingredients are cooled, grind the dals coarsely first, followed by coriander, cumin seeds and keep the powder in a plate
  • Now grind red chillies along with salt separately and keep them aside
  • then add curry leaves and grind again.
  • Now grind the raw garlic pods seperately
  • Now add all the ground ingredients together and mix well,check salt and adjust if needed
  • store in an air tight container.
  • Serve with hot rice and ghee (or) with idly and ghee
